Asteroids can contain many precious metals including water, so asteroids can help sustain human civilization over a long term, asteroid mining will benefit life on Earth. Asteroids have been causing a lot of destruction over millions of years by crashing into the earth, larger ones are rare events now but still there are asteroids that can be moved to safe locations for extracting resources.

I've had ideas for a long time. Extracting resources from asteroids could potentially change life on Earth, there might be a lot less mining on Earth in the distant future unless if progress is made to make metals cheaper from space.
